Sobre el campo de golf
Set within a tranquil 780‑acre island estate just east of Cork City, Fota Island Golf Club is a lush parkland haven framed by mature oaks and surrounded by the waters of Cork Harbour. Originally crafted in 1993 by Irish Ryder Cup star Christy O’Connor Jr. and two‑time English Amateur Champion Peter McEvoy, the layout was refined in 2000 by architect Jeff Howes to meet European Tour standards.
The club boasts 27 championship holes - the Deerpark (par 71), Belvelly (par 72), and Barryscourt (par 73) each offering its own rhythm and challenges. Wide, manicured fairways and light rough invite confident tee shots, but strategic bunkering and water hazards demand precision. The signature par‑5 10th on Deerpark is a standout: a tree‑lined chute that doglegs left to a green tucked beside the lake.
Fota Island has hosted the Irish Open three times, with champions including Colin Montgomerie, Søren Hansen, and Mikko Ilonen. Off the course, the Fota Island Golf Academy offers state‑of‑the‑art practice facilities, TrackMan technology, and expert PGA tuition.
Whether you’re chasing a championship‑level test, soaking in the serene woodland scenery, or enjoying the resort’s luxury amenities, Fota Island delivers a complete golfing experience one that lingers long after you’ve walked off the 18th green.
